Carol E. Harkrader, M.D. brings her patients vital experience gained from more than 20 years in practice as a doctor of medicine specializing in psychiatry. What distinguishes her psychiatric work is her invaluable expertise in listening—not only to you but also to your family members, primary care doctor, and referring mental health care providers so she can fully understand your problem and help formulate a plan to help you get well and feel better.

Dr. Harkrader is a general psychiatrist in Loudoun County, Virginia. Her special interest is in mood and anxiety disorders. But she treats all kinds of life problems, including loss and grief, life transition, attention deficit, and recovery from trauma. The information and support she offers to all of her clients is designed to decrease their sense of shame over having a "mental" disorder and to enlist them in becoming active managers of their own lives, especially their mental health and relationship health. Some of her patients are offered psychotherapy, and all are encouraged to develop healthy habits and explore holistic approaches if needed.

Because of her understanding that often people abusing drugs and alcohol have additional mental health concerns, Dr. Harkrader has developed treatment relationships with several area Chemical Abuse Treatment programs, and is certified to prescribe Suboxone for the outpatient treatment of Opiate Dependency.
